Sunflower Es Morte

Well, the sunflowers died about a week after we applied the splint.

I replaced the sunflower with the Cyclops eye.

We applied a splint to the bent sunflower today. Don't know if the lone sunflower will live much longer : (

Attack of the Squirrels!: Death of a Sunflower?

Well, the sunflower lasted about two days!
I found it bent over this morning--SQUIRRELS!!!!! (Yell like Captain Kirk, "Kahn!!!!!).

I may be able to put a splint on it. We'll see if it can be resurrected.

Sunflower Cyclops Scarecrow

Well, the first sunflower opened up this morning. I put a cyclops scarecrow eye on the plant to ward off squirrels.

This probably won't work, as those pesky squirrels usually bite the sunflower heads off rather quickly.

Will the squirrels foil my garden plans again!

Guggenheim Birdhouse Homage

Given that I love Frank Lloyd Wright's design of the Guggenheim art museum in New York, NY, I made a bird house as a homage.

I took the picture on the left in June of '03 during a trip to NYC.

The bird house is not an exact replica, but hopefully a family of birds will dig it and move in!

Why I Created This Blog of Surreal Stuff

When I went to my 25th High School graduation, most of the people there remembered someone I had long forgotten--Emil Wiley...

This is the name I first used in high school when I did the morning announcements over the P.A. system. I portrayed a deep-voiced anchorman named George Harris, and Emil Wiley was a high-pitched, nervous sounding reporter. I would often switch back and forth between the voices. For example, George Harris would say, "Reporting live from the lunchroom with today's menu is Emil Wiley. Emil are you there?" "Uh, yeah, George, today's menu is a choice of Salisbury steak, or hoagies with mashed potatoes and corn. Dessert will be yellow cake with chocolate icing. That's it from the lunchroom, back to you, George.

So, in an effort to have a bit of fun, I'm resurrecting Emil Wiley as my pen name for some of the weird things I write and take pictures of.

For my first post, I'd like to share a short video I shot in the summer of 2006 as a homage to a stunt David Blaine did called "Drowned Alive." My version is called "Batman Buried Alive."
